Commissaire d’exposition, éditeur et essayiste belge. En 1974, il a co-fondé la renommée Archive for Small Press and Communication (ASSPC). Cela faisait partie d’un important réseau international au sein de la presse artistique indépendante.
Il est devenu célèbre dans le monde de l’art pour son travail inlassable avec les artistes et les archives d’artistes. À travers de nombreux exemples, don’t son propre Archive Space, il a soutenu des artistes du monde entier. Son travail pour les artistes polonais dans les années 1970 en particulier était un grand soutien pour leur avancement international.
Il a également dirigé la Galerie Kontakt à Anvers de 1966 à 1976, où il a exposé des oeuvres de Jef Geys, Georges Vantongerloo, Lucio Fontana et d’autres. Il avait également sa propre maison d’édition Guy Schraenen éditeur, avec laquelle il publiait de nombreuses publications. En 1989, il est devenu conservateur de la collection de publications d’artistes ‘A Museum within a Museum’ au Museum Weserburg à Brême. Belgian curator, publisher and essayist. In 1974 he co-founded the renowned Archive for Small Press and Communication (ASSPC).
That was part of an important international network within the independent art press. He became famous in the art world for his tireless work with artists and artist archives. He supported artists from all over the world trough many initiatives, including his own Archive Space.
His work for Polish artists in the 1970s in particular proved to be a great support for their international advancement. From 1966 to 1976 he also led Galerie Kontakt in Antwerp, where he showed work by Jef Geys, Georges Vantongerloo, Lucio Fontana and others. He also had his own publishing house, Guy Schraenen éditeur, with which he published a stream of publications. In 1989 he became curator of the collection artist publications ‘A Museum within a Museum’ at the Museum Weserburg in Bremen. That museum also took over the Archive for Small Press and Communication in 1999. Ref.1

Hij werd beroemd in de kunstwereld voor zijn onverdroten werk met kunstenaars en kunstenaarsarchieven. Via vele initiatieven, onder meer zijn eigen Archive Space, steunde hij kunstenaars uit de hele wereld. Met name zijn werk voor Poolse kunstenaars in de jaren zeventig bleek een grote steun voor hun internationale doorstroming.
Hij leidde van 1966 tot 1976 ook Galerie Kontakt in Antwerpen, waar hij werk van onder meer Jef Geys, Georges Vantongerloo, Lucio Fontana en anderen toonde. Hij had ook een eigen uitgeverij, Guy Schraenen éditeur, waarmee hij een stroom uitgaves publiceerde.
In 1989 werd hij curator van de collectie kunstenaarspublicaties ‘A Museum within a Museum’ in het Museum Weserburg in Bremen. Dat museum nam in 1999 ook het Archive for Small Press and Communication over. Ref.1
